12-week summer internship onsite in Ashville, OH.

About The Team

Anduril is seeking an Industrial Engineering Intern to join our summer internship program. The Manufacturing Engineering organization is responsible for rapidly iterating and building cutting-edge defense hardware, including static equipment, moving ground equipment, sensors, undersea, and flight vehicles, and scaling these products in our new 5M sq ft manufacturing facility, Arsenal-1. As an IE intern, you will work alongside a team who will provide guidance and mentorship while you work to optimize Anduril's manufacturing operations for best-in-class quality, reliability, speed, and asset utilization. The Industrial Engineering Intern will take a data-driven approach to designing production lines and associated manufacturing processes to meet these objectives. In this role, you will work on a summer-long project where you will be required to actively collaborate with and prepare presentations to various Anduril teams including but not limited to Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Analytics, and Quality.

About The Role

The right person for this role can demonstrate holistic ownership in solving operational challenges with creative solutions in a fast-paced, resource-limited environment. This person will be flexible to change and ambiguity in their working environment, while working to ensure products are built and shipped on-time under stringent quality standards. If you are someone who thrives in stepping up to optimize production systems, then this role is for you.

What You'll Do

  • Own and lead projects to optimize and improve systems, processes, and manufacturing operations, leveraging a data driven approach.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement including high variation processes, imbalances and bottlenecks caused by line layout, equipment constraints, staffing shortages. Work with the appropriate owners across Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality to prioritize and drive to resolution.
  • Translate and drive action from metrics, KPIs, and reporting associated with production line health and efficiency, such as cycle time, throughput rate, capacity, utilization, and first pass yield.
  • Produce and maintain capacity plans, balanced line layouts, staffing allocations, and time standards for manufacturing work content.
  • Work across domains, from execution-based work to the strategic future state of a product or business line.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing, or recently obtained, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering or related STEM field
  • Prior work experience or project experience applying Industrial Engineering / Lean Methodologies
  • Ability to read technical documentation such as facility drawings, assembly drawings, technical specifications and procedures for manufacturing processes for electronics, mechanical and electromechanical assembly, system tests, and/or structures work
  • Ability to work through ambiguity and be a self starter
  • Motivated to plan aggressively, accept challenges, take responsibility for assignments, and deliver objectives on time
  • Strong skills - especially in areas of teamwork, drive for results, and business acumen
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work designing and/or setting up new production lines or factories - from process mapping through to collaborating with infrastructure design partners and detailed work station design
  • Prior work or project experience with engineering design software, such as AutoCad or LucidChart, to develop factory layouts & support line balancing exercises
  • Prior work or project experience conducting manufacturing time studies
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma principles either through previous coursework or in practice
  • Experience interacting with data via data visualization applications or SQL queries
  • Ability to completely own a value chain from start to finish, measuring each step of the process, creating actionable tasks that culminated in a significant and sustainable business improvement
