We are seeking an Optical Engineering Intern for Summer 2025! This is a paid, in-person, 12 week internship based out of Lexington, MA.
* Lens Design and Test of Infrared Optical Systems. Projects will be scoped to be completed within the duration of a 12 week internship. As an intern you will have direct exposure to engineers involved in initial sizing, concept layouts, analysis, performance, trade studies, and concept refinement.
* Design lenses and optical components for high performance imaging systems * Develop and implement test setups, procedures, and data collection to transition products and systems from R&D to production * Evaluate and analyze prototype and production optical system performance data * Collaborate with senior staff, systems engineers, and mechanical engineers to solve interdisciplinary technical problems by serving as a Optical Engineering subject matter expert
* Pursuing a BS in Engineering, Physics, or Astronomy, with a concentration or coursework in Optics * Demonstrated first principles approach to optical problems * Familiarity with opto-mechanical components (e.g. Thorlabs/Edmund hardware) * Experience with Matlab, Python, or other scripting * Must be have a U.S. Person status and able to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance * Ability to complete an in-person 12 week internship in Lexington, MA
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with others * Experience with optical design and analysis software, preferably Zemax or CodeV * Knowledge of image quality metrics such as MTF * Optical component testing experience (spectral transmission, interferometry, etc.), optical system alignment and testing (EE, MTF, PSF, etc.), and opto-electrical system modeling * Demonstrated experience in the integration, test, and performance requirements verification and validation of optical systems
