About The Job
We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Electronics to join our rapidly growing team in Lexington, MA. In this role, you will be responsible for owning the manufacturing processes for our electronic and electromechanical assemblies—ensuring our designs can be built cost-effectively, tested reliably, and scaled to meet production demand. You will be the go-to person on the production floor for diagnosing and resolving complex electrical and electromechanical failures, driving root-cause analysis and corrective actions that improve First Pass Yield and reduce rework. You will also support new product introduction efforts, partner with Design Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain, and continuously improve our value stream to keep pace with growing demand. This will require deep hands-on knowledge of electronics troubleshooting, functional test development, and DFM/DFT principles, combined with strong analytical and data-driven problem-solving skills. If you are someone who thrives in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment, takes ownership of problems end-to-end, and finds genuine satisfaction in making hardware build processes more robust and repeatable, then this role is for you.
What You'll Do
- Sustaining Production
- Act as the lead troubleshooter for complex electrical and electromechanical failures on the production floor, using data and structured root-cause analysis to drive corrective actions that improve First Pass Yield (FPY) and reduce rework.
- Manage the implementation of engineering changes on the factory floor—including alternate components and obsolescence management—ensuring seamless, validated cut-overs with minimal disruption to production.
- Monitor and analyze production and test data to identify trends, recurring failure modes, and process drift, proactively driving improvements before issues impact output.
- New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Participate in early design reviews, applying DFM/DFT principles to ensure electromechanical designs are optimized for assembly and testing.
- Develop manufacturing build and test plans, including work instructions and custom test fixtures and procedures for electronic assemblies.
- Support pilot builds on the production floor, working with technicians to document issues and refine the assembly and test process.
- Value Stream Ownership
- Own the manufacturing value chain for a defined set of products, encompassing both technical and commercial operations, ensuring the capability to produce at needed scale.
- Evaluate, plan, and prioritize long-term and short-term supply chain, production, and test optimizations to ensure capability and reliability of the value stream to meet production output goals and business objectives.
- Break systems down into logical subassemblies and process flows to maximize production capability, reliability (lead time and flexibility), and total cost of ownership.
- Develop and communicate strategies—including vertical integration, value stream diversification, and strategic partnerships—to unlock scalability of production output and accelerate product development.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Design and Sustaining Engineering on production issues: investigate the assembly/test process first, then collaborate with design engineers to investigate the design itself when process has been ruled out.
- Partner with Quality on root-cause analysis, providing deep product-specific technical expertise to understand failures and validate the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Provide technical validation for Supply Chain's component and supplier sourcing decisions; work together to qualify new suppliers and resolve technical or quality issues with incoming materials.
- Operations & Documentation
- Work with contract manufacturers within the critical product value stream to develop and execute repeatable, sustained processes for quick-turn development as well as at-scale production and testing.
- Be on-site at current and future operations partners, managing technical and commercial needs, solving ongoing production issues, improving capacity, and evaluating potential partners.
- Work hands-on with technicians and other engineers building prototype and production hardware for internal and external use.
- Create and maintain documentation required for successfully manufacturing hardware at scale (work instructions, test procedures, process specifications).
- Reduce complexity through commonality optimization and component/supplier rationalization.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Test Engineering, with a focus on electronic or electromechanical hardware.
- Hands-on experience with the discrete manufacturing, assembly, and test of complex electromechanical systems, with a working understanding of how electrical schematics and layouts relate to the physical hardware.
- Personal experience physically manufacturing hardware (soldering, assembly, fabrication, machining, etc.). Work on personal or extracurricular projects is a plus.
- A genuine interest in manufacturing operations and a drive for continuous improvement.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in hardware testing and automated test systems (LabVIEW, Test Stand, etc.)
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Matlab, SHELL, or others
- Experience with computer hardware communication protocols: USB, Ethernet, RS232, RS485, PCIe, HDMI, CAN, etc
- Experience in the assembly and test of precision mechanisms.
- Proficiency with electrical schematics, layouts, and how they relate to the physical hardware
- Exposure to ISO 9001/AS 9100 quality systems.
- Demonstrated familiarity with optical system integration and test.
