Builds AI-driven defense and autonomous systems, including surveillance towers and drones, to enhance national security and military capabilities.

Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century's most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril's family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

Anduril is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Costa Mesa. As Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will have responsibility for optimizing Anduril's manufacturing processes to ensure the highest quality, reliability and efficiency of production, while supporting the development and implementation of new products (NPI). Executing on this responsibility will entail active collaboration with Anduril teams across Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, and Business Operations. The right person for this role can demonstrate past ownership on solving production challenges with creative solutions in a fast-paced, resource-limited environment.

What You'll Do

  • Design, document and implement efficient manufacturing processes to meet both new product development (NPI) and full-rate production goals.
  • Take ownership of a certain product or set of products, from initial prototyping through large full-scale production, by coordinating multiple internal and external parties to achieve on-time delivery under stringent quality standards.
  • Proactively identify production bottlenecks caused by line layout, work distribution, staffing shortages, and other production constraints by understanding Cycle Time and Quality Metrics.
  • Write documentation required for successfully manufacturing hardware at scale, such as work instructions, quality plans, inspection requirements, and manage these requirements within Anduril's MES.
  • Provide technical guidance to the production technicians and work with other engineers side-by-side, building prototype hardware for test and evaluation.
  • Travel to suppliers to do initial part qualification work, solve ongoing production issues, develop and implement quality procedures to sustain high quality production part delivery (DIFOT).
  • Develop novel tooling solutions for fabrication and assembly of structural parts.
  • Work with design engineers to embed Design for Manufacturing (DFM) features and principles in product design.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing and team engagement.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering field, preferably process engineering for complex mechanical systems.
  • Understanding a variety of manufacturing processes for mechanical parts (CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication / welding, injection moulding, composite panel fabrication etc.) and mechanical system assembly.
  • Understanding of hardware manufacturing processes for electronics (PCBAs, sensor hardware, battery power systems, cable harnesses etc.) and electromechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with hardware testing and automated systems test
  • Demonstrated willingness to take on responsibility across manufacturing engineering and supplier discussions, with a high level of self-awareness and bias toward continuous improvement.
  • Ability to interpret CAD data and understand supplier technical documentation including component GD&T drawings.
  • Personal experience physically manufacturing hardware via any means (machining, fabrication, soldering, assembly, etc.), with previous work on personal or extracurricular projects is a plus.
  • A genuine interest in manufacturing and thirst for learning.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively deliver electromechanical hardware in a resource-constrained environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Production line design and set up including Value Stream Mapping, material flow, workstation and tooling design.
  • Experience with CAD software (NX, Solidworks, Siemens/Teamcenter)
  • Experience building engineering release workflows including BOM management with tools such as PLM, ERP and MES in a manufacturing environment.
