The Anduril Imaging team develops state-of-the-art imaging systems across both hardware and software, deployed to tackle the most significant security challenges of America and its allies. The team is heavily involved in utilizing computer vision, perception, electro-optical, infrared, and sensor data to give our war fighters and allies an advantage.

About The Job

We are seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team, focusing on the design and development of Space-Based advanced complex electro-mechanical and structural and electronics packing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, development, analysis, and manufacturing tasks on complex mechanical hardware including precision space structures and mechanisms in a program team environment.

What You'll Do

  1. Develop Space-Based cutting-edge infrared sensors.
  2. Design high-precision and complex space opto-mechanical
  3. Develop and perform testing to show proof-of-design and/or qualification of new designs.
  4. Own hardware from concept generation to real-world use.
  5. Utilize first principles physics as a basis for all decisions.
  6. Responsible for establishing key performance error budgets
  7. Build prototypes, analyze failures, and transition successful projects into production.
  8. Support critical hardware demonstrations with customers as needed.
  9. Define top-level system architecture trades to develop optimal system designs.
  10. Execute in-depth and rigorous opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical designs.
  11. Prepares reports, formal documentation and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and present results to both external and internal teams, including leadership and customers including Preliminary Design reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM)
  12. Mentoring junior engineers, leading small teams, and managing projects/budgets.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in mechanical engineering (BSME), or MS with 8 plus years of experience in design, hardware, or integrated product development and testing, and excellent leadership/communication
  • 5+ years of professional experience leading a multi-disciplinary mechanical engineering team through system requirements, design, analysis, test, hardware build, delivery and launch
  • Prior or current experience with spaceflight imaging applications, especially related to optical systems
  • Proficiency in various CAD tools and openness to using new software, with the ability to create high-quality engineering drawings that meet industry standards.
  • Strong skills in material selection, finishing, component sizing, system design, and troubleshooting.
  • Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated hands-on fabrication skills.
  • Ability to integrate electronic components into mechanical designs (motors, controllers, sensors, etc.).
  • Experience with machining and fabrication processes, sheet metal, injection molding, and 3D printing.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5 GD&T) and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to drive projects from concept to completion
  • Excellent written and verbal skills for documentation, presentations, and collaboration.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with complex optical system design, analysis, testing, and implementation.
  • Experience in leading engineering teams from conceptual through detailed design phases
  • Experience in design of space-based mechanical structures, mechanisms, and electronics packaging along with engineering drawing development.
  • Proficiency in tolerance stack-up analysis for mechanical designs as well as GD&T
  • Experience with thermal management.
  • Preference for Siemens NX & Teamcenter experience.
  • Working knowledge of DFMA.
