We believe our technology, combined with a best-in-class customer experience, will define the future of firearms safety for the next generation. Our mission-driven approach has earned support from the firearm community, the tech world, and the media. Biofire employees encompass a diverse range of talents, including world-class engineers who have designed and tested firearms, medical devices, robots, cars, satellites, rockets, and supersonic jets; expert technicians from aerospace, defense tech, special forces, and gunsmithing; and elite operators from high-tech, advanced manufacturing, and regulated industries. Whether building the product or powering the company behind it, every Biofire team member is united by an obsession with safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

Reducing accidental firearm injuries and deaths requires original thinking and authentic collaboration, so we're deeply invested in building a team and culture that can achieve our mission together. Team members enjoy autonomy and flexibility from day one, so expect to be immediately tasked with solving challenging problems and building new systems that work. We'll hold you accountable for executing audacious goals, giving and receiving honest feedback, and helping your teammates succeed. You'll receive respect, kindness, and support from every direction while you figure out how to get it all done.

As a Senior Cad Designer at Biofire, you will play a pivotal role in creating and maintaining production-ready CAD models and technical drawings that ensure clarity, manufacturability, and compliance with our design standards. We are looking for someone who is meticulous, technically skilled, and collaborative to work closely with our engineering and manufacturing teams and help deliver accurate, complete, and production-ready drawing packages that enable robust product development and manufacturing.

To succeed, you will need to consistently produce precise, standards-compliant drawings, proactively identify and resolve design issues, and support cross-functional teams in translating concepts into manufacturable products. You will need to be a technically meticulous drafter who is eager to drive accuracy, consistency, and efficiency across CAD models, drawings, and PLM documentation. If you're excited about building the foundation of a high-quality manufacturing environment through disciplined design documentation, we encourage you to apply.

Day-to-day responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Creating and revising 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks with appropriate GD&T and full compliance with internal standards;
  • Performing interference checks, tolerance analyses and maintaining accurate assembly configurations, including CAD models, BOMs, and drawings;
  • Translating early-stage concepts into production-ready designs and supporting product development through feedback from engineering, manufacturing, and tooling partners;
  • Delivering complete, manufacturable drawing packages for production and tooling components;
  • Maintaining disciplined revision control, version tracking, and documentation accuracy in PLM;
  • Collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement partners to clarify designs, integrate feedback, and resolve manufacturability issues;
  • Participating in design reviews and incorporating cross-functional input to continuously improve drawing quality and readiness for production.

We understand that not all applicants will possess skills that perfectly align with our job qualifications. At Biofire, we appreciate diverse experiences from various industries, and we encourage all individuals who meet the necessary qualifications to submit their applications. While having the "desired" qualifications may strengthen a candidate's profile, we also welcome applicants with alternative experiences to apply.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical drafting practices, standards, and conventions for precision manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in 3D Modeling, Assembly and 2D drawing creation in SolidWorks, including GD&T application and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Experience designing components for multiple manufacturing methods (e.g., injection molding, machining, stamping/forming, MIM).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with consistent delivery of clean, accurate, and manufacturable drawings.
  • Experience with PLM systems for revision control, release management, and documentation tracking.
