Programmer/Operator

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. Blue Origin is developing the next generation launch and space vehicle manufacturing facility on Florida's Space Coast at our Orbital Launch Site Manufacturing Complex. We are in search of a Programmer/Operator that can perform under minimal supervision the following: use cam software to create and develop programs, set up and operate Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) Machines. Training is available for talented CNC operators to transition to AFP programmers.
Responsibilities:
- Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
- Reads and understands blueprints.
- Fully understands GD&T.
- Uses CAM software to create CNC programs.
- Uses gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements.
- Uses precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as Automated Fiber Placement machines.
- Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures, and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Recognizes, deploys, and properly uses inserts, fixtures, and tooling.
- Performs daily and regular cleaning including light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment.
- Evaluates experimental procedures and recommends change or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup AFP production.
- Tracks parts and labor into a MRP system.
- Reads and understands AFP code.
- Makes minor adjustments to AFP programs.
- Loads AFP programs and safely runs through first part.
- Adjusts speeds and feeds to obtain optimal layup conditions.
- Complies with all quality and company policies, specifications, regulations, and instructions.
Qualifications:
- Eight years of related CNC/AFP experience along with five of them in programming.
- High school diploma or GED required along with trade school.
- Use of CAM software preferably with NX (Unigraphics)
- Extensive knowledge of all metals, plastics, and composites in the areas of cutting speeds, tooling selections, and machining approaches.
- Effectively communicates and understands job instructions both verbally and written.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations in the concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required, use of an overhead crane, forklift, stand for long periods of time, vision requirements will include close, distance, color, depth perception, and focus.
- Computer skills.

- Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
