Develops reusable rockets and spaceflight systems to enable commercial space travel, orbital access, and long-term human presence beyond Earth.

Manufacturing Engineering Manager

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

We are seeking experienced Manufacturing Engineering Managers to lead teams advancing human spaceflight through innovative manufacturing solutions at Blue Origin. In these key roles, you will oversee the development and implementation of manufacturing processes—including design for manufacturability, work instruction creation, tooling procurement and development, process planning, and configuration of efficient work cells. You will collaborate within integrated product teams, working closely with design, quality, tooling, facilities, logistics, operations, and project management to deliver high-quality lunar vehicles and hardware on aggressive timelines.

The ideal candidates will be hands-on leaders with strong technical acumen and a record of driving continuous improvement in dynamic environments.

This is a pooling requisition for current and anticipated openings across multiple Lunar teams and shifts. Candidates will be matched to the right roles as needs are identified.

Position Specific Details:

  • Shift: Mon-Fri (8am-5pm)
  • Location: Space Coast, FL
  • Relocation: Available
  • Travel: Up to 10% for training and support activities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers responsible for manufacturing and production of lunar vehicles, subcomponents, or supporting hardware/tooling.
  • Build high-performing teams of top manufacturing talent, fostering a flexible organization that overcomes challenges as they arise.
  • Guide teams through design development in the context of Lunar Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), including build/flow, process, and manufacturing development.
  • Aid Operations Leadership in facilitating effective decision-making on complex, high-impact scenarios.
  • Provide focused, adaptive decision-making in a high-velocity aerospace production environment.
  • Lead the development of fabrication specifications, acceptance & test plans, maintenance plans, and Statements of Work.
  • Support requirements generation within IPTs, including establishing and maintaining Interface Control Models (ICMs).
  • Support design trades to enable efficient design for manufacturability and operational excellence.
  • Identify and develop critical manufacturing processes and steps required for assembly, integration, and testing of lunar vehicles or hardware/tooling.

Team Focus & Domain Expertise:

  • Manufacturing Leadership & Operations: This team drives efficient production systems for advanced aerospace hardware. Managers lead engineers in building robust processes, enforcing quality, and optimizing supply chains. We streamline operations, reduce costs, and maintain mission assurance by leveraging the latest technologies. Ideal candidates are resourceful leaders skilled in decision-making and team building.
  • Cryogenic, Thermal, and Fluidic Systems Manufacturing: We fabricate and assemble essential cryogenic, thermal, and fluidic hardware such as cooling systems, valves, pumps, radiators, and solar arrays for space missions. Our engineers develop reliable manufacturing processes, commission tooling, and ensure quality through thorough testing. Success in this team means expertise in assembly, hazardous operations, and continuous innovation.
  • Crew, Life Support, and Mechanisms Integration: This team assembles and integrates crew accommodations, life support systems, and mechanisms for human-rated spacecraft. You'll create fabrication plans, work instructions, and lead testing for critical subsystems. We value engineers with hands-on experience in fluidic, electrical, or composite hardware, and a focus on safety and performance in human spaceflight.
  • Advanced Solar Arrays & Electronic Components Manufacturing: Focused on building space solar arrays and electronics, this team manages panel and wing fabrication, cell assembly, and testing to rigorous aerospace standards. Engineers here work with manufacturing work cells, digital instructions, and advanced metrology. We seek experts in electronics, soldering, and space power systems.
  • Tooling, Automation, & Process Innovation: This group develops and implements manufacturing tools, fixtures, and automation to enhance productivity and quality. We optimize production processes and ensure fast transition from design to build. Candidates thrive with CAD and metrology skills, hands-on tooling experience, and a drive for continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
  • 6+ years of experience in manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering roles
  • 3+ years of experience creating English work instructions
  • Must be able to work second shift and have flexibility to move shifts as needed. Open to work extended hours if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in engineering, project management, or a related field
  • Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
  • 4+ years leading projects and/or teams in aerospace/high-reliability or advanced manufacturing environments
  • Manufacturing engineering experience on human-rated aerospace vehicles and hazardous operations
  • Demonstrated leadership and relationship-building skills that drive team performance and deliver results
  • Technical expertise across multiple hardware domains, including system assembly, bonding/adhesive and fastener application, machining/composite fabrication, and electrical/mechanical integration
  • Strong background in fabrication processes: machining, welding, composites, assembly, and advanced metrology (CMM, laser scanning)
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and commissioning tooling/fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, or testing
  • Proven record supporting requirements generation, Interface Control Models (ICMs), and cross-functional IPT contributions
  • Proficiency in PLM/MRP systems (Teamcenter, Windchill), BOM management, and reconciliation
  • Digital literacy in MS Office Suite, MS Project, MS Visio, Jira, Confluence
  • Familiarity with quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001), compliance/audits, and corrective action protocols
  • Experience with manufacturing automation, digital work instructions, and advanced metrology tools
  • In-depth project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for varied teams and stakeholders
