Data Science Intern

Help Supersonic Software Take Flight

At Boom, data drives innovation—it's the lifeblood that fuels our pursuit of supersonic innovation. We're building Symphony, the first purpose-built jet engine for sustainable supersonic passenger flight, by pulling signals from noisy, high‑rate test data and turning it into decisions that matter.

As a Data Science Intern at Boom, you will contribute to the development of software tools, data system architecture, and hardware integration efforts that are central to Boom's engine development program. Your work will directly support critical test operations—including the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at test sites. Beyond helping Boom's work to achieve a successful test fire, you'll gain invaluable, real-world experience as a core member of the test team.

Role Overview

As a Data Science Intern at Boom, you will:

  • Craft data analysis tools in Python or MATLAB that tap into data coming out of test systems
  • Roll out real time data visualization components for our telemetry monitoring system
  • Collaborate with engineers to streamline and scale data analyses
  • Deploy ETL pipelines that wrangle, normalize, and structure data from heterogenous sources
  • Help design and deploy data driven solutions such as anomaly detection systems, real time audio transcription, or predictive models

The Ideal Candidate

  • One year away from graduation in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, or Structural Engineering (or similar)
  • You see complex systems as puzzles waiting to be solved and thrive in environments where innovation meets precision
  • One year away from graduation in a bachelor or master degree program in data science, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or similar program
  • Data analysis or software skills: Python, MATLAB, JavaScript/Typescript
  • Strong background in numerical computing or statistics
  • Prior internship or hands-on project experience in aerospace, defense, or related high-tech industries
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ambition, complemented by effective collaboration skills in a team setting
  • Excels in a high-energy, independent, and challenging work environment

What Will Set You Apart

  • Coursework or experience working with empirical experimental data, especially with quantitative or statistical analysis as well as data visualization. Experience applying data science techniques to these domains—such as modeling, simulation, or test data analysis—is highly valuable
  • Proficiency in data visualization – examples of where you've told a visual story with data
  • Experience working with Rust, Go, C++
  • Exposure to aircraft systems, controls, or avionics with an emphasis on data-driven analysis, modeling, or tool development
  • Experience in a leadership role on at least one project, from concept to completion
  • A portfolio, GitHub repo, or class projects that show you can deliver code and analyses that have had an impact on a project

Education & Experience

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Prior internship, capstone, or research experience in data science

Work Location

Internships require 100% onsite at Boom's headquarters located at 6803 S Tucson Way, Centennial, CO 80112.
