RF Engineering Intern

Epirus is a high-growth technology company developing software-defined high-power microwave (HPM) systems with devastating counter-electronics effects on modern drone threats. The Epirus Leonidas HPM family of products, empowered by innovations in AI and microelectronics, is human-safe and cost-effective. Distinguishing itself from lasers, Leonidas excels against drone swarms while also bending the cost curve back in DoD's favor - taking drone defeat costs from millions of dollars per drone to pennies on the dollar.

This is an exciting role in a growing company. We are looking for interns to join us on a 10-week internship program. This will be a hands on and in-person position.

Are you fascinated by the invisible forces that connect the world? Join our RF Engineering team and dive into the cutting edge of counter-electronics technology. As an RF Engineering Intern, you'll be part of a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment where you'll contribute to real hardware projects that impact next-generation systems.

This is more than an internship – it's a launchpad into the world of antennas, RF power amplifiers, and early-stage product design. If you're excited by electromagnetic waves, RF circuits, and challenging problems, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Design, test, and optimize antennas for novel wireless applications
  • Assist in the development and characterization of RF power amplifiers, including simulation, layout, lab testing, and performance analysis
  • Conduct feasibility studies on new product concepts – exploring real-world constraints like form factor, thermal performance, and in-field deployability
  • Support lab experiments and measurements using spectrum analyzers, VNAs, signal generators, and custom RF setups.
  • Analyze RF performance metrics (Active S-parameters, X-parameters, PAE, EVM, etc.) and help translate them into design recommendations.
  • Collaborate with senior RF engineers, cross-disciplinary functions, and product managers to bring ideas from whiteboard to prototype.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • Work on real RF hardware from day one
  • Be part of a tight-knit, curious team that thrives on experimentation and big ideas
  • Gain exposure to product development from concept to prototype
  • Access to a fully equipped RF lab and mentorship from seasoned engineers
  • Opportunity to contribute to innovative products in commercial & defense applications

Basic Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or any related field
  • Rising senior or beyond at time of internship and have a graduation date between 12/2026 - 12/2027. All applicants should be returning to school at the end of their internship to continue their academic studies.
  • Prior internship, collegiate project team, or laboratory experience
  • Experience with RF hardware design (antenna design, microwave power amplifier design) and test equipment (VNA, power analyzer, signal generator, waveform generator)
  • Experience with RF design tools (Keysight ADS, Ansys HFSS, CST, AWR)
  • Python Experience
  • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export-controlled data

ITAR REQUIREMENTS

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. Learn more about the ITAR here.
