Mission readiness for national security teams

✨ About The Role

About EZTrain:

At EZTrain, we are setting a completely new standard for how mission-critical organizations manage the readiness of their teams. Department of Defense (DoD) personnel, EMTs, and firefighters must constantly fulfill hundreds of training and compliance requirements to be eligible to do their jobs,  yet the systems used to manage these tasks are outdated and manual, leading to wasted time and poor outcomes.

EZTrain eliminates the administrative burden of managing readiness so first responders can focus their full attention on life-saving work. Our platform provides a full suite of automated tools to synthesize disparate data, manage requirements, communicate across an organization, and analyze historical data to drive improvements. Our initial customers are military organizations, but we have plans to expand into EMS, fire fighters, and police.

EZTrain has seen significant momentum over the last few months:

  • Won multiple DoD grants (>$100k) to research and build our solution
  • Completed early enterprise sales (>500 paid users)
  • Received initial funding from Bling Capital (early investors in Lyft, Palantir, GitLab, Instacart)
  • Gained acceptance into the Alchemist Accelerator (Aug 2024 start date)
  • We have relationships that extend into the highest levels of the DoD; we’ve met with the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other 3 star generals to discuss our product

The Problem:

There are currently over 12 million DoD personnel and first responders that spend 20% of their work hours on tedious, administrative tasks in order to create and maintain training/compliance protocols. This administrative burden is a leading contributor to readiness shortfalls.

In 2024 alone, the DoD allocated $146B to hit their readiness goals. Despite this massive investment, every branch is facing major challenges:

  • 25% shortfall in new Army recruits
  • 5x increase in Air Force pilot shortage, 4x increase in Navy pilot shortage
  • -150K total deployable soldiers

In order to defend our nation and promote peace abroad, it’s paramount that we improve the readiness of our forces and reverse these trends.

Team:

EZTrain was founded through a Hacking for Defense course at Duke University. Luke (CEO) and Roberto (COO) are friends and former classmates. They have worked closely with first responder organizations for over 2 years. EZTrain also has two part-time engineers to support early product development.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for an outstanding full-stack engineer who can help us build the future of readiness management and serve as our founding engineer. The team has engineering resources, but we need a product leader to help architect EZTrain’s future.

More Info on Alchemist:

  • Leading accelerator for startups selling to enterprises (#1 in median funding rates of its grads)
  • ~25 companies in cohort and Demo Day at culmination of program
  • Access to valuable mentor network

Tech Stack

  • Django, React, and AWS tooling (S3, EC2, Lambda, Pinpoint, SQS)
  • Experience with ML/AI (specifically enhancing workflows via generative AI) is an added benefit

Qualifications:

  • A mature understanding of software development and deployment processes; experience developing full stack solutions
  • Bonuses:
  • Experience in the defense ecosystem and/or building solutions for defense customers
  • Prior history leading product teams
  • Prior history building LLM applications
