We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Manufacturing & Tooling Engineer with 15–20 years of deep, hands-on experience in plastic injection molding and tooling. This role is intended for a technical authority who has personally designed molds, worked in tool shops, led tooling programs, and supported customers through complex global manufacturing programs.
You will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Lead.
Areas of Responsibility: - Own technical costing and DFM strategy for new tooling and production opportunities, delivering comprehensive DFM, DFA, and cost-optimization recommendations that balance part performance, manufacturability, tooling investment, and long-term unit economics. - Lead the transition of customer programs from prototype and low-volume production (3D printing, CNC machining, soft tooling) to high-volume injection molding, including part-level redesign, material and process selection, tolerance optimization, and tooling architecture definition to support scalable mass production. - Drive tooling solution development, including proposal definition, mold-flow analysis oversight, tool design reviews, gating and cooling strategies, and design-for-cost decisions. Act as the technical authority for new tooling, tool transfers, and re-tooling initiatives across global suppliers. - Serve as the primary technical interface with customers, engaging directly with international engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing teams. Translate customer requirements into manufacturable solutions through clear, high-impact technical communication and cross-functional collaboration with sales, operations, and supplier engineering teams. - Act as a subject-matter expert for injection molding and related processes, supporting the ongoing development, validation, and refinement of the Fictiv platform tools, workflows, and quoting logic to improve accuracy, scalability, and customer experience. - Provide technical leadership and quoting support for injection-molding-adjacent processes, including LSR, compression molding, and select metal casting technologies, ensuring process selection and cost models align with functional, regulatory, and volume requirements. - Ensure rigorous capture and translation of customer requirements pre-sale, validating manufacturability assumptions during quoting and enabling seamless technical handoff post-sale to execution teams, suppliers, and quality functions to ensure on-time, on-spec program launches. - Travel may be required, dependent upon specific customer programs. This would be estimated at ~10-20% of the year.
