Firefly Component and Sub-Assembly Technicians work closely with Fluid Systems Engineers to ensure that the build process is being performed according to the instructions. This work primarily includes the assembly of valves, actuators, and other sub-assemblies. We are hiring for a range of experience levels from entry level to highly experienced and we encourage all interested candidates to apply.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Test, functional verification, and troubleshooting of hydraulic and pneumatically actuated cryogenic valves, systems and components
  • Assist engineers in reviewing and developing design concepts, tooling, test hardware and providing feedback for improvements.
  • Hydrostatically and pneumatically proof components.
  • Follow, review, improve and provide feedback on work instructions for complex mechanical systems and installations
  • Precision assembly of rocket engine components: combustion devices, valves, turbomachinery, and other sub-assemblies.
  • Safely work with hazardous systems, chemicals, and high-pressure operations.
  • Root cause and diagnostic component disassembly, repair, and work
  • Clean and passivate hardware using means such as solvent/chemical, mechanical, ultrasonic, and precision cleaning methods.
  • Perform shop level maintenance and calibration of equipment such as pumps, tanks, filtration systems, scales, etc.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 2 to 5 years experience (or equivalent) in aerospace, aircraft, R&D or related industrial fields.
  • Electronics / Avionics experience or familiarity with avionics systems used in aerospace applications (e.g., wiring, troubleshooting, or integration of avionics components and systems)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals
  • A Demonstrated high-level problem of solving skills working in a team environment.
  • Physically able to climb ladders and stairs
  • Lift and carry 50 lbs. for limited durations
  • Schedule varies depending on needs, flexibility required
  • Work nights, weekends and overtime when necessary.

Desired:

  • Familiarity with tube fabrication (bend, flare, fittings, etc.) and pressurized system safety
  • Working knowledge of a variety of tube/fluid applications including GN2, GHe, hydraulics and cryogenics
  • Knowledge of various fittings such as National Pipe Thread (NPT) and AN fittings
  • Experience cleaning systems to aerospace or medical standards
  • Prior valve, actuator, and pump build experience
