Facilities Project Manager
As an end-to-end responsive space company, Firefly Aerospace is on a mission to enable our world to launch, land, and operate in space – anywhere, anytime. Our small- to medium-lift launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles allow us to service the entire lifecycle of government and commercial missions from low Earth orbit to the Moon and beyond. We utilize carbon composite structures, patented propulsion technologies, and common components across our vehicles to iterate quickly, improve reliability, and deliver payloads at a lower cost. This position will sit out of our Rocket Ranch in Briggs, Texas.
We are seeking a results-driven Facilities Project Manager to lead complex capital projects and facility construction initiatives supporting our growing aerospace operations in Texas. This individual will oversee all phases of project delivery, from planning and budgeting through execution and closeout. The ideal candidate has a strong background in CAPEX project management, industrial construction, and cross-functional coordination in a highly technical environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end delivery of capital projects ranging from $250K to $20M+, including new construction, infrastructure upgrades, and manufacturing space reconfigurations.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, budgets, schedules, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Participate in annual capital planning efforts in coordination with finance and operations teams.
- Track and report project spend against approved budgets; proactively manage change orders and scope adjustments.
- Coordinate design, permitting, contractor selection, and construction oversight for new buildings, cleanrooms, labs, and production support spaces.
- Ensure alignment with building codes, industry standards, safety and environmental regulations, and company-specific requirements (e.g., AS9100, ISO 14644, etc.).
- Work with local officials for any required permits and inspections.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, HSE, security, and IT teams to define space, utility, and equipment requirements.
- Communicate project status and risks to leadership and key stakeholders through regular reporting and milestone reviews.
- Solicit and evaluate project bids, negotiate contracts, and manage general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and engineering consultants.
- Conduct site inspections, safety reviews, and quality assurance checks during construction and commissioning.
- Incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable design principles where feasible.
- Support initiatives that reduce lifecycle facility costs and support operational uptime.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field
- 5+ years of experience managing capital facilities projects, preferably in aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of building codes, permitting, and construction practices
- Proven track record of on-time and on-budget delivery of complex projects
- Experience in contractor management including having active contacts, being able to negotiate best value, and following up to ensure work meets quality, schedule, and price expectations
- Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet) and construction software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam)
- Working knowledge of EHS, security, and high-performance utility infrastructure (e.g., compressed air, HVAC, high-voltage systems)
- AutoCAD or other basic 2D building CAD software experience
- Must be able to work off hours as part of an on-call rotation
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, high energy level and a positive outlook coupled with a can do attitude and a willingness to do what it takes to achieve personal and organizational goals and overcome obstacles
- PMP or equivalent certification preferred
