Forterra is seeking a highly skilled Senior HIL Linux DevOps Engineer with a strong focus on Ansible, Automation, and Python to join our dynamic team. This role involves designing, implementing, and managing automation solutions using Ansible, developing automation scripts in Python, maintaining Linux systems, and optimizing network connectivity and security. The primary goal is to streamline operations and improve efficiency through automation while ensuring the stability and security of system infrastructure. We need a team player who is passionate about the success of autonomy and hardware testing that is willing to engage meaningfully across the HIL team and other teams to ensure HIL and Test benches will successfully contribute to the success of our product deliveries.
Develop, maintain, and enhance automation scripts and playbooks using Ansible and Python for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems and test benches
Install, configure, deploy, and troubleshoot Linux-based autonomous vehicle HIL systems and test benches
Implement and maintain Continuous Integration (CI/CD) tools such as GitLab Actions, Ansible, Docker, and Python-based automation frameworks
Automate system administration tasks to reduce manual efforts and increase efficiency
Ensure clear and effective communication with both engineers and customers
Thoroughly document automation workflows and system configurations to facilitate continuous process improvement
Minimum Qualifications
3+ years of experience in a relevant field
Strong expertise in Ansible for automation, configuration management, and orchestration
Proficiency in Python for automation, scripting, and tool development
Proficiency in Linux System Administration, including hardware knowledge and expertise in command-line tools
Experience developing automation tools using Bash and Python
Experience with CI/CD Pipelines such as GitLab Actions, Jenkins, or similar
Strong problem diagnosis, troubleshooting, and resolution skills
Excellent problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently and fulfill obligations to assigned programs
Capability to configure various network devices, including wireless radios and network switches
Commitment to maintaining proper documentation of system configuration changes
Collaboration with technicians, engineers, and other team members to diagnose and resolve higher-level issues
Experience with version control systems such as Git for managing automation scripts
Understanding of network protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, and routing protocols
Preferred Qualifications
Experience integrating Ansible and Python with CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks
Knowledge of VPN configuration for establishing secure network connections between different systems and networks
Familiarity with installing and configuring firmware on embedded hardware devices, particularly on custom Linux distributions (especially Ubuntu) and microcontrollers (STM)
Docker for packaging, distributing, and managing applications within containers
Experience in deploying software to embedded computers and remote systems, ensuring seamless integration and functionality in diverse environments
Proficiency in reviewing network traffic and diagnosing issues to ensure optimal network performance and security
Experience in troubleshooting network-related problems, including connectivity issues, latency, packet loss, and bandwidth constraints
Familiarity with network monitoring and analysis tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, or similar for capturing and analyzing network packets
Familiarity with LDAP, Apache, and Nginx
US Salary Range $120,000—$140,000 / annually

The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors.
