Role Overview
ID.me is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to serve as the technical owner and strategic partner for a portfolio of named enterprise accounts. This is a customer-facing, deeply technical role at the intersection of engineering, product, and customer success — you are the person who gets it done.
FDEs own the end-to-end technical relationship with their accounts, proactively identifying gaps between customer requirements and product capabilities, building solutions, and driving cross-functional alignment to ensure every customer integration succeeds.
This position is eligible for fully remote work. All FDEs should expect regular travel to customer sites and periodic travel to ID.me offices for team collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the technical relationship for a defined set of named enterprise accounts, from integration kickoff through long-term expansion.
- Rapidly prototype and deliver proof-of-concept (PoC) solutions and proof-of-value demonstrations that address customer requirements or unlock new use cases.
- Identify and document product gaps discovered through customer engagements, translating real-world requirements into actionable input for Product and Engineering.
- Diagnose and resolve integration issues quickly by leveraging ID.me's internal network of experts — escalating effectively without needing deep knowledge of internal org structure.
- Contribute to areas of the codebase most relevant to your accounts (e.g., authentication flows, API integrations, SDKs), relying on subject-matter experts outside your core scope.
- Represent the voice of the customer in internal product and roadmap discussions.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated strength in web-based integrations and APIs.
- Experience working directly with enterprise customers in a technical capacity (solutions engineer, integration engineer, technical account manager, or similar).
- Strong proficiency with REST APIs, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and SAML.
- Ability to read, write, and debug code in at least one relevant language (Ruby, Python, JavaScript, Go).
- Excellent communication skills — able to translate complex technical concepts for both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with digital identity standards: NIST 800-63-3, Verifiable Credentials, or FedRAMP.
- Experience with identity proofing, authentication, or access management in government, healthcare, or financial services.
- Prior experience at a developer-facing or identity/security platform company (e.g., Okta, Auth0, Ping Identity, Socure).
What Success Looks Like
- Your accounts complete integrations on time, expand their use of ID.me, and report a high-quality technical partnership experience.
- Your performance directly impacts your compensation — variable comp is tied to customer value delivery, ARR growth, and qualified sales pipeline.
- You surface product gaps with enough specificity that Product and Engineering can act on them.
- You build proof-of-concepts that convert skeptical prospects into confident customers.
The Forward Deployed Engineer role is remote-eligible. ID.me maintains a full-time, in-office culture for most roles; however, given the field-based nature of this position, FDEs may work remotely while traveling regularly to customer sites and periodically to ID.me offices.
Pay Range: $160,000 - $200,000 USD
