Role Overview

As a Principal UX Designer for Internal Tools, you will lead the user experience vision and strategy for the systems and applications that empower ID.me's internal teams—such as Operations, Support, Trust & Safety, and Engineering. You will design intuitive, efficient, and scalable tools that streamline workflows, improve data visibility, and enhance employee productivity.

This role is ideal for a systems thinker and hands-on design leader who thrives on complex problem-solving, cross-functional collaboration, and high-impact design outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Own the UX vision for ID.me's internal tools ecosystem—establishing design principles, frameworks, and standards.

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, operations leaders, and data teams to define user needs and workflow requirements.

  • Conduct user research and usability testing with internal stakeholders to identify pain points and optimize operational efficiency.

  • Design end-to-end experiences—from high-level concepts and information architecture to detailed interaction and visual design.

  • Create and maintain design systems and patterns tailored for internal platforms to ensure consistency and scalability.

  • Advocate for the user—translate operational complexity into intuitive interfaces that enable teams to act confidently and efficiently.

  • Mentor other designers and influence the broader UX practice across ID.me, fostering a culture of evidence-based design.

  • Partner with data teams to measure design impact using KPIs such as task completion rates, user satisfaction, and system adoption.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 10+ years of professional UX/UI design experience, with at least 5 years designing complex, data-rich internal or enterprise tools.

  • Proven experience designing admin dashboards, workflow systems, or operational interfaces.

  • Exceptional skills in information architecture, interaction design, and prototyping (Figma, Axure, or similar).

  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills; experience working with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complexity and design for scale and efficiency.

  • Excellent storytelling and communication abilities to influence design decisions at all levels.

Preferred:

  • Background in SaaS, identity verification, fintech, or security-related products.

  • Familiarity with design systems and component libraries.

  • Experience conducting UX research and translating insights into actionable design recommendations.

  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced, agile environment.

Why ID.me?

  • Meaningful mission improving trust and access in the digital world.

  • Collaborative, innovative culture focused on user-centered outcomes.

  • Opportunities for professional growth and thought leadership.

  • Competitive compensation, equity options, and comprehensive benefits.
