In this role, you'll work closely with Product, Design, and fellow engineers to build secure, high-performance, and user-friendly web applications and workflows that power ID.me's verification experiences. You'll contribute across the stack to build the identity layer of the internet. This is a hands-on engineering role ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, is not afraid of ambiguity, cares deeply about user experience and system reliability, and wants to contribute to a mission-driven product with nationwide impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain end-to-end features for ID.me's member verification experiences.
- Design and build scalable APIs that enable product teams to efficiently interact with multiple third-party identity vendors.
- Implement provider-agnostic workflows that allow flexible orchestration of identity verification services based on business rules, compliance needs, and real-time decisioning.
- Optimize system performance by designing resilient, fault-tolerant architectures with low-latency API calls and scalable data pipelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, security engineers, and infrastructure teams to define requirements and deliver high-impact solutions.
- Raise the bar for technical excellence, engineering best practices, testing strategies, and distributed system design through pairing, mentoring, architecture / code reviews, technical presentations, and knowledge sharing sessions.
- Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following best practices in front-end and back-end development.
- Ensure compliance with identity, security, and data protection standards.
- Design, build, and maintain full-stack features for ID.me's member verification experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 6+ years of professional experience in software development (full-stack).
- 6+ years of experience building and scaling customer-facing web applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, backend integration patterns, and secure web development.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to balance speed with technical quality.
- Experience with identity verification, authentication, or regulated UX flows.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architectures, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Experience working in highly regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, or government services.
- Strong knowledge of identity resolution techniques, fuzzy matching, and record linkage algorithms.
