Tooling Technician

As a Tooling Technician at Impulse, you will support the design, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of tools, jigs, fixtures, and ground support equipment used in spacecraft and propulsion hardware manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Assemble, calibrate, modify, and repair production and test tooling based on engineering drawings, work instructions, or CAD models.

Support the build and installation of custom fixtures, alignment jigs, lifting equipment, and production aids.

Work with engineers and technicians to iterate on tooling design for ergonomics, durability, and manufacturability.

Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment, and manage tooling lifecycle documentation.

Track tooling inventory and support inspections, certifications, and load testing as required.

Maintain a safe and organized tooling work area and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma of equivalency certificate

3+ years of hands-on experience in tooling, fabrication, machining, or mechanical assembly — preferably in aerospace, automotive, or high-precision manufacturing

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, blueprints, and specifications

Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and basic mechanical measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.)

Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail

Preferred Skills and Experience

Experience with aerospace or spaceflight hardware and tooling

Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and digital work instructions

Forklift or overhead crane certification

Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies

Additional Information: Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
