We are seeking a Composite Tool Prep and Demold Technician to join our team. As a technician, you will play a crucial role in preparing composite tooling surfaces for layup and executing the demolding process with precision. Your responsibilities will include applying release agents, ensuring proper mold release application, and safely removing cured parts from composite tooling. Attention to detail, a strong understanding of composite materials, and proficiency in handling various tools and equipment are essential for success in this role. Joby Aviation is dedicated to training and developing individuals with potential, and we are looking for apprentices who are eager to learn and grow within our company.

Shift Schedules below:

1st shift - Monday – Thursday: 7AM- 5:30PM

2nd shift- Monday - Thursday: 5:30PM - 4:00AM

3rd shift - Friday - Sunday: 6AM - 6:30PM

Responsibilities

Safely demold cured composite parts from tools/molds without damaging part or tool

Use approved hand tools, wedges, air assist, or hydraulic systems per work instructions

Identify and report part defects discovered during demold (surface issues, bridging, voids, tool marks, etc.)

Protect critical surfaces during handling and transfer to next operation

Clean molds and tooling surfaces using approved solvents, wipes, and methods

Remove residual release agents, sealers, flash, and debris

Inspect tools for damage, wear, or contamination before next layup

Perform minor surface prep such as light scuffing, polishing, or tape line cleanup as required

Mask tools for layup or bagging operations

Follow all standardized work instructions and adhere to technical requirements

Apply mold release agents, sealers, and surface prep chemicals per specification

Follow cure/flash times and application techniques (wipe-on and buffing)

Track and document release system cycles per standard process.

Escalate tool damage, excessive force during demold, or recurring sticking issues

Coordinate with Scheduling Specialist when required to pivot planned schedule

Participates in shift handovers, ensuring accurate communication of tool readiness, maintenance needs, and production priorities

Required

HS Diploma or GED Equivalent

Experience working in fast-paced, time sensitive environments

Demonstrated abilities following standardized work instructions, technical requirements, and executing standard processes.

Ability to lift 50lbs aided or unaided throughout the day.

Basic computer skills for documentation and record-keeping purposes.

Must wear PPE when required.

Have no known allergies to epoxies or other composites materials and able to become certified to wear a respirator.

Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods.

Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces

Ability to become forklift, crane, or equipment certified

Must be able to continuously stand, squat, bend, pull, twist, and lift throughout the workday.

Desired

1+ year of manufacturing experience

Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment

Experience in a high-volume production environment that relies on a well-defined process to achieve maximum efficiency.

Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S environments.

The target base pay for this position is $18-$32/hr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
