Joby Intern Opportunity

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

The BMS Systems Engineering Team is seeking an intern to assist in the verification and testing of battery management system components and subsystems for our eVTOL aircraft. This person will work closely with systems engineers on the team to draft test procedures, execute verification tests, and support documentation efforts. We expect our interns to take on a lot of ownership but will provide mentorship and guidance to allow them to grow and be successful in a fast-paced, engineering-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with systems engineers in test preparation, execution, and reporting for BMS verification activities
  • Set up and execute verification tests that have been written or reviewed by engineers on the team
  • Build and debug bench-level test setups; troubleshoot existing test stands as needed during testing
  • Support the Testing Team in execution of system-level tests as needed (cross-team support)
  • Support closure of requirements set by updating requirements and verification documentation
  • Support certification testing documentation, including test procedures and test reports

Required

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or other relevant discipline
  • Currently at junior level or above
  • Must be able to work for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and onsite
  • Experience or coursework in any of the following: Electrical/Power Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Systems, Battery Systems, or Embedded Systems

Desired

  • Hands-on hardware experience, such as FSAE, robotics, or similar project teams
  • Basic understanding of electrical and battery concepts
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, Excel, or similar tools for data analysis and visualization
  • Prior relevant intern or co-op experience
  • A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to listen and learn effectively. Enthusiasm, passion, proactivity, and genuine excitement surrounding the role and company.

Additional Information

The pay range for undergraduate interns, which includes freshman to senior level students, is $22.00 - $31.00/hour. The pay range for graduate interns with a Bachelor, Master, and/or Ph.D. degree is $5,550-$7,800/month.
