*Note: This position requires presence in our San Jose or San Francisco office location 4 days per week; Lambda's designated work from home day is currently Tuesday.
Lambda is seeking a Data Center Electrical Modeling Intern who will help with modeling electrical systems at Lambda's existing and future data center sites.
What You'll Do
- Power Systems Analysis (50%) – Assist in data collection and field verification to support accurate as-built modeling of existing sites. Perform load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and relay coordination studies on existing and future data center sites. Collaborate with team members to identify and resolve power system issues identified through modeling. Prepare technical reports, one-line diagrams, and documentation summarizing study results.
- New Product Introduction (20%) – Support design and layout of emerging electrical designs and systems; exploring new manufacturers and electrical architectures.
- Delivery & Commissioning (15%) – Participate in co-location delivery reviews, site visits, witnessing on-site commissioning, and final acceptance.
- Professional Development (15%) – Broaden your technical range through structured mentorship, expanding into advanced EE domains and next-generation electrical infrastructure.
You
- Progress towards a Bachelors/Masters degree in Electrical Power Engineering or equivalent.
- Understanding of Electrical Power Engineering Theory
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, DC supplies, logic analyzers, and LCR meters.
- Strong problem-solving and design instincts — able to translate theory into working systems.
- Experience with some combination of SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower for electrical modeling and study execution.
- Programming proficiency in some combination of Python, C, etc.
- Exposure to some combination of KiCad, LTSpice, MATLAB, LabView, Fusion 360, and modern prototyping tools.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with emerging technologies such as 800VDC and Solid-State Transformers (SST).
- Experience in BMS/controls integration or IoT-based electrical telemetry.
- Experience with PLC Industrial Automation languages such as Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text, etc.
- Understanding of UL891 vs UL1558 vs ANSI/IEEE CS37.20.7 standards/applications.
- Interest in AI infrastructure design, DCIM development, or energy automation.
Salary Range Information
This is an hourly role, eligible for overtime. The hourly rate for this position has been set based on market data and other factors. However, a hourly rate higher or lower than this range may be appropriate for a candidate whose qualifications differ meaningfully from those listed in the job description.
