Develops lithium-sulfur batteries and 3D graphene-based materials to enable higher-performance, more sustainable energy storage and advanced composites.

Mechanical Engineer Intern

Lyten is leading an industrial revolution through Lyten 3D Graphene™, a breakthrough supermaterial unlocking a new generation of products — from lithium–sulfur batteries and energy storage systems to concrete admixtures, lightweight composites, and next-generation sensors that are revolutionizing industries. Together, these innovations are making a massive global improvement and driving real-world impact across energy, mobility, construction, and defense.

At Lyten, we believe the most meaningful careers begin with purpose — and with people who want to make a difference. We're not just developing advanced supermaterials — we're about to change the world as we know it, reshaping how energy is stored, how products are built, and how progress is made.

We're entering an exciting growth phase, scaling production across the U.S. and Europe and expanding our team of engineers, scientists, and innovators.

Apply now to join our team and be part of something bigger than yourself — where collaboration, creativity, and purpose come together to build the technologies that will define the next century.

About the Role

This internship supports Lyten's engineering rigor and scalability by fully documenting existing reactor systems. Interns will produce comprehensive documentation packages—including P&IDs, CAD models, BOMs, and work instructions informing a capstone project with long-term operational impact. This work enhances traceability, supports controlled design changes, and improves build efficiency for commercial reactors.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and update P&IDs, 3D CAD models, and detailed part drawings for existing reactor systems using SolidWorks
  • Improve reactor functionality through methodical, first-principle based problem solving
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and inventory records for reactor components and assemblies
  • Write and revise work instructions and assembly procedures to support repeatable, efficient builds
  • Support engineering change processes by ensuring documentation packages are accurate, complete, and revision-controlled
  • Collaborate with engineering and technician teams to verify documentation reflects as-built system configurations
  • Organize and maintain structured documentation packages for released and in-development reactor systems
  • Clearly communicate progress and findings in both written and verbal form

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an engineering degree program (Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field); no degree required
  • Completion of relevant coursework in engineering fundamentals, CAD, or technical drawing
  • Basic familiarity with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, organized technical documentation
  • Strong work ethic with a desire to learn in a fast-paced engineering environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to GD&T principles or ANSI/ASME Y14.5 drawing standards
  • Experience reading or creating P&IDs, BOMs, or engineering work instructions
  • Familiarity with document control or PLM/PDM systems
  • Hands-on lab or shop experience (fabrication, assembly, or testing)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit, stand and use a computer for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Compensations Range:

The expected base salary range for this position is between $25.00 - $32.00. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.
