Lyten

Develops lithium-sulfur batteries and 3D graphene-based materials to enable higher-performance, more sustainable energy storage and advanced composites.

Summer R&D Intern

Lyten is leading an industrial revolution through Lyten 3D Graphene™, a breakthrough supermaterial unlocking a new generation of products — from lithium–sulfur batteries and energy storage systems to concrete admixtures, lightweight composites, and next-generation sensors that are revolutionizing industries. Together, these innovations are making a massive global improvement and driving real-world impact across energy, mobility, construction, and defense.

At Lyten, we believe the most meaningful careers begin with purpose — and with people who want to make a difference. We're not just developing advanced supermaterials — we're about to change the world as we know it, reshaping how energy is stored, how products are built, and how progress is made.

We're entering an exciting growth phase, scaling production across the U.S. and Europe and expanding our team of engineers, scientists, and innovators.

Apply now to join our team and be part of something bigger than yourself — where collaboration, creativity, and purpose come together to build the technologies that will define the next century.

We are seeking a Summer R&D Intern to join our Thermoset Team within the Composites Group for a 10-12 week, on-site internship. In this position, you will support multiple ongoing projects focused on optimizing thermoset formulations. This role provides hands-on experience in formulating, preparing, and testing materials while working alongside an experienced team of scientists and engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare test specimens according to ASTM protocols and perform mechanical testing.
  • Conduct Design of Experiments (DOEs) to investigate structure-property relationships and optimize formulations.
  • Analyze thermal and rheological properties to evaluate cure behavior and product performance.
  • Present findings and recommendations to the project team, including clear data analyses, interpretation of results, and conclusions.
  • Deliverables including weekly updates, a written final report, and a final presentation to the team and invited internal employees outside the group.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrated through coursework, projects, or research.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively document and present findings.
  • Ability and willingness to follow proper PPE protocols and adhere to all safety guidelines when handling epoxy materials and other laboratory chemicals.
  • Physical ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs and to stand or walk for extended periods in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to work on-site for the duration of the 10-12 week internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate students in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related fields.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software is a plus.
  • Prior experience using TGA, DSC, rheometer, Instron, and optical microscopy.
  • Familiarity with polymer formulations, thermoset chemistry, or related R&D project work.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a team environment.
