Facilities Maintenance Technician
Muon Space is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to support the daily operation, maintenance, and reliability of our next-generation spacecraft manufacturing facility in San Jose. This critical role is responsible for diagnosing and performing initial troubleshooting on facility infrastructure, including HVAC, cleanroom systems, electrical distribution, plumbing, and safety systems. A key aspect of this position is coordinating and managing specialized maintenance and facility improvement projects with external vendors to ensure all systems operate safely and efficiently with minimal downtime.
You will work closely with engineers, contractors, and manufacturing teams, utilizing strong diagnostic and project management skills to oversee preventative and corrective maintenance programs.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial diagnosis and first-response corrective maintenance on facility systems to minimize disruption.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems to identify root causes of failures.
- Coordinate, oversee, and manage all scheduled and emergency maintenance performed by external contractors and vendors.
- Manage facility improvement projects, from scoping and vendor selection to execution and closeout.
- Execute preventive and predictive maintenance tasks on select facility systems (e.g., specific electrical, plumbing, or mechanical components).
- Support operation and maintenance of critical power infrastructure including UPS systems, backup generators, and automatic transfer switches.
- Monitor and maintain HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, air handlers, and refrigeration equipment, utilizing external specialists as needed.
- Assist with maintenance and upkeep of cleanrooms and other controlled environments.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and documentation, utilizing a CMMS system.
- Respond to facility emergencies and participate in readiness procedures for environmental or operational threats.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and company policies.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance within aerospace, industrial, semiconductor, or large commercial environments.
- Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues independently.
- Demonstrated experience in project coordination, vendor management, and contract oversight.
- Hands-on experience with first-response maintenance and repair of MEP systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC).
- Working knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, lighting, and grounding.
- Experience with HVAC systems including air handling units, filtration systems, chillers, or boilers.
- Familiarity with critical infrastructure such as backup generators and UPS systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
- Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in mechanical rooms.
Nice-to-have Skills
- Experience supporting cleanrooms or controlled environments.
- Familiarity with the National Electric Code (NEC), ASHRAE, NFPA, or building codes.
- Experience with aerospace manufacturing facilities.
- Technical certification in HVAC, electrical, or facilities maintenance.
- Experience with CMMS systems for work order tracking.
Salary
The salary range for this role is $93,000 - $101,000 plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
