RF Science Intern (Summer 2026)
Summer internships will range between the months of May and September depending on university schedules. Internship is full-time and on-site in Mountain View, CA.
Muon Space seeks experienced candidates for the position of Data Science intern. Muon has three GNSS-Reflectometry (GNSS-R) satellites currently providing data with an additional three expected to be launched in 2026. The candidate will work closely with the Science Team to develop and validate GNSS-R related data products and refine data processing techniques. The ideal candidate has a strong data science foundation, coding experience, and a willingness to explore new data types. Muon is looking for self-motivated candidates who are comfortable working with a remote team.

Responsibilities
Internship projects may include some or all of the following:
- Calibration & Validation: Quantify differences in inter-satellite calibrations and performance.
- Data Fusion: Explore the utility of combining GNSS-R data with other data types.
- Research & Applications: Adapt GNSS-R data products for use in natural hazards mapping and mitigation.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other scientists in and outside of Muon to advance GNSS-R techniques.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Earth Science, or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong Python programming skills.
- Comfortable with collaborative coding workflows; specifically, git-managed repositories, pull requests, and cloud-based virtual machine environments.
- Experience working with remote sensing data, preferably microwave.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to approach problems methodically and solve complex data challenges with creative and effective solutions.
- Data Experience: Experience working with messy, complicated real-world data
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts to a diverse audience.
- Passion for Our Climate: A strong interest in addressing climate change through the development of new technology.
Nice-to-have Skills
- Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS).
- Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.).
- Experience working with GNSS or GNSS-R data.
Salary
The hourly wage for this role is $50.
