Planet is a global company with employees working remotely worldwide and joining us from offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, and The Netherlands.

About the Role:

We are seeking a mission driven, execution focused Collection and Capacity Product Manager within our Enabling Service, Imagery Products team. This team is a critical group within our Imagery Collection and Production function. This group is responsible for the core systems and processes that enable our satellite imagery products—from customer tasking and feasibility to image capture and processing.

This role is ideal for a strong product leader who thrives in a fast-paced, operationally complex environment and enjoys enabling high-impact teams to deliver foundational capabilities across the organization. This role is central to Planet's mission to image the entire Earth every day and make global change visible, accessible, and actionable.

Collection and Capacity Product Manager owns the orchestration for satellite collection and determines capacity for tasking missions and coverage for monitoring missions. Ensures fairness, efficiency, and prioritization align with business priorities. Ideal candidates would have genuine enthusiasm and deep curiosity for satellites and remote sensing imagery and the desire to learn the technical intricacies of our mission capabilities.

This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States. If located near an office, you are expected to work from that office 3 days per week.

Impact You'll Own:

  • Optimize and drive efficiency in collection logic across all missions to guarantee alignment with and fulfillment of customer demand
  • Maximize overall system capacity and collection throughput across all missions to scale the product offering
  • Define and own the core scheduling logic with Missions, including prioritization rules, retry mechanisms, and deconfliction logic in the scheduling systems
  • Validate and refine modeling assumptions in close partnership with Missions & Systems teams to ensure the accuracy and reliability of feasibility studies and capacity forecasts
  • Design and maintain internal tools and visualization with Missions to streamline and optimize capacity planning, enabling proactive sales support and successful commercial execution
  • Collaborate tightly with Tasking and Ordering PM to ensure the backend system architecture and functionality seamlessly support evolving customer offerings and product capabilities of tasking systems
  • Lead feasibility studies for commercial planning, providing data driven insights to shape opportunities and strategic decisions

What You Bring:

  • 6+ years of product management experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Experience in capacity forecast demand, and the ability to handle dynamic capacity utilization (for example, transportation or logistics workflows)
  • Experience evaluating algorithms and models (such as mathematical programming and heuristics) that automate complex scheduling decisions; what to collect, where to aim, and when to execute to minimize operational cost and maximize order fulfillment
  • Experience maximizing the productive output (the number of high quality images) from the limited resource (the satellite), while effectively minimizing waste (like unsuccessful tasks or images obscured by cloud cover)
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity in a rapidly evolving environment
  • Track record of effectively collaborating with Missions and Operations teams to deliver results
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Outstanding written and spoken communication skills and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize appropriately
  • Ability to travel 5% of the year domestically or internationally

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Experience in aerospace, Earth Observation, or geospatial systems
  • Experience working closely with operations teams and understanding the realities of satellite constraints

Benefits While Working at Planet:

  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision plans
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with a company contribution
  • Generous Paid Time Off in addition to holidays and company-wide days off
  • 16 Weeks of Paid Parental Leave
  • Wellness Program and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Home Office Reimbursement
  • Monthly Phone and Internet Reimbursement
  • Tuition Reimbursement and access to LinkedIn Learning
  • Equity
  • Commuter Benefits (if local to an office)
  • Volunteering Paid Time Off
