Senior Electronics Technician
We are seeking a Senior Electronics Technician to join the growing Quantum Sensing division at our laboratories in Sydney, Australia. This role will support the development of new quantum sensor prototypes and products.
As a Senior Electronics Technician, you will provide hands-on technical expertise in the assembly, test, and troubleshooting of advanced electronic systems. You will play a key role in supporting engineers and scientists across hardware and research teams by building and maintaining prototype systems, ensuring high-quality hardware and documentation. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished technician with extensive experience in R&D environments. Experience with precision electronics, RF, or optoelectronics is highly desirable, though not essential. As a senior member of the team, you may also mentor junior technicians and contribute to the continuous improvement of our laboratory practices.
Reporting to the Lead Engineer (Hardware), the Senior Electronics Technician will contribute to our rapidly growing efforts to deploy software-ruggedised quantum gravimeters, accelerometers, and magnetometers.
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting the development, assembly and testing of quantum sensing prototypes for Aerospace, Defence, and other applications.
- Assembling, wiring, and troubleshooting prototype electronic systems, including PCBAs, harnesses, and laboratory test rigs.
- Performing hands-on testing and validation of electronic systems using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and other equipment.
- Supporting engineers in integrating electronics into complex quantum sensor systems.
- Documenting builds, testing, wiring diagrams, and lab test procedures to ensure reproducibility and quality.
- Supplier liaison and procurement for prototype builds.
- Maintaining equipment, consumables, and safe laboratory practices.
- Other duties within the Employee's skills and experience, or with reasonable training.
Ideally you'll have:
- A diploma, associate degree, or equivalent industry qualification in electronics or related discipline.
- A demonstrated track-record of hands-on electronics assembly and test at a Senior level.
- R&D experience working concurrently with scientists and engineers.
- Strong practical skills in soldering (through-hole and fine-pitch SMT), cable harness fabrication, and prototype assembly.
- Proficiency with electronic test equipment and ability to interpret schematics.
- Experience supporting the transition from lab prototypes toward manufacturable designs is desirable, though not essential.
- A strong desire to work with a world-leading team and a company that is fundamentally building the future of the quantum technology industry.
Q-CTRL aims to bring together cross-functional teams from many different backgrounds to help achieve our goals - we strongly encourage you to apply even if you do not meet all of the requirements mentioned in the job posting.
