Calibration Technician II / III

Our Electron rocket has become the second most frequently launched U.S. rocket annually and has delivered more than 230 satellites to orbit, all while we work to develop Neutron, our upcoming medium-lift, reusable launch vehicle for larger constellation deployment. Our Space Systems business designs and builds our extensive line of satellites, payloads, and their components, including spacecraft that have been selected to support NASA missions to the Moon and Mars and components used on the James Webb Space Telescope.

Calibration Technician

Based onsite at Rocket Lab's global headquarters in Long Beach, CA, the calibration technician has ownership of the maintenance and calibration of all equipment used in production and quality at Rocket Lab's Headquarters and Engine Development Center. The candidate will be responsible for the calibration of inspection equipment and gages.

(Please note: this position can be hired on as a Calibration Technician II or Calibration Technician III level)

What You'll Get To Do:

  • Coordinate calibration of all inspection equipment internally or externally.
  • Accurately record the results of those calibrations. Manage in flow of equipment or gauges to and from external calibration sources.
  • Document using internal systems when non calibrated equipment is utilized for production and support corrective actions.
  • Develop new calibration procedures and revised existing procedures as needed.
  • Communicate the status of equipment or gauges that require calibration.
  • Maintain accurate, neat and complete inspection records
  • Work within a team structure to achieve company and department goals
  • Perform additional duties related to specific area assignments when requested.

You'll Bring These Qualifications as a Calibration Technician II:

  • 2+ years of experience working with calibration tools.
  • Capable of utilizing all standard inspection tools and equipment including calipers, micrometers and drop indicators.
  • Must be familiar with ISO/AS9100 Quality System requirements.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Geometric Dimension and Tolerance (GD&T) or to learn GD&T.

You'll Bring These Qualifications as a Calibration Technician III:

  • 5+ years of experience working with calibration tools.
  • Capable of utilizing all standard inspection tools and equipment including calipers, micrometers and drop indicators.
  • Must be familiar with ISO/AS9100 Quality System requirements.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Geometric Dimension and Tolerance (GD&T) or to learn GD&T.

These Qualifications Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Skilled trade, aeronautical or manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing.
  • Takes initiative and can work with minimal guidance.
  • Remains calm under pressure and an excellent communicator.
  • Must be able to read and understand English.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of management.
  • Must have basic PC fundamentals, knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.

Additional Requirements:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be physically able to commute to buildings.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.
  • Availability to work long hours and weekends as needed based on test and launch schedules.
