About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Accounting Operations to own accounting operations and architect scalable financial workflows within a rapidly scaling, complex manufacturing environment. This role designs data-driven performance frameworks and drives automation across accounts payable, payroll, cash application, and procurement-to-AP processes. Partnering cross-functionally, the Director of Accounting Operations brings structure, visibility, and continuous improvement to accounting operations while leading the accounts payable and payroll teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build and monitor KPI frameworks, such as cycle times, resolution rates, escalation paths and SLAs. Translate data into clear priorities, insights, and action plans.
  • Identify bottlenecks and systemic issues using case and performance data.
  • Partner closely with HR, Procurement, Operations, Legal, and FP&A to align and standardize systems, policies, and workflows; drive continuous improvement through automation, process redesign, and system enhancements.
  • Oversee payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce, including hourly manufacturing employees and salaried staff
  • Lead accounts payable operations across domestic and international vendors, including high-volume invoice processing and complex payment structures
  • Manage and develop team leaders and individual contributors across payroll and AP, fostering accountability, growth, and high performance
  • Own month-end close activities related to payroll and AP, including accruals, reconciliations, journal entries, and reporting
  • Support external audits, internal reviews, and regulatory inquiries
  • Play a key role in integrating new entities, facilities, and jurisdictions as the company grows

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting operations experience, including leadership of Payroll and Accounts Payable functions
  • Experience in manufacturing, defense, aerospace, or other highly regulated industries
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and accounting operations best practices
  • Experience managing high-volume AP environments and complex vendor relationships in an international organization
  • Proven ability to scale teams and processes in fast-growing organizations
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Experience with international operations and multi-currency environments
  • Experience implementing or optimizing ERP, payroll, or AP automation systems
