About the Role

As Director, Government Relations & Legislative Affairs, you will drive initiatives to support the development and implementation of corporate policy through strategic partnerships with government and industry groups. You'll be responsible for representing the company on legislative and regulatory affairs with elected officials and government officials in regulatory agencies and ensure appropriate company participation in government forums and industry group meetings. You'll develop key relationships with designated trade and business associations, and advocacy groups on political, legislative and regulatory issues of importance to the company and ensure communications on behalf of the company are clear and consistent. You'll also monitor federal legislative proposals in order to support the assessment of opportunities available within and beyond our existing markets, offerings and business models. In Sierra Space's Washington, D.C. Office we are responsible for government affairs, international strategy, and regulatory compliance. We provide strategic guidance across the organization, helping to find alignment between Sierra Space and the national security priorities of the U.S. government.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Builds out the strategy; identifies and implements the steps needed to execute on the strategy over their business area/function.

  • Working knowledge and experience with government relations and affairs, legislation, grassroots advocacy, or campaign organizing experience

  • Directs activities of the government relations and legislative affairs function and integration with other teams.
  • Participates with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives.
  • Translates strategy into functional plans. Makes final decisions on implementation, guides execution, and ensures operational effectiveness.
  • Provides direction and leads activities through reporting managers who have overall responsibility for the successful operation of assigned areas.
  • Is accountable to meet financial plans, goals, and schedules.
  • Upholds and models company values; holds others accountable to values.
  • Interacts with internal and external executive-level management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required as this position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment.
  • Working knowledge and experience with government relations and affairs, legislation, grassroots advocacy, or campaign organizing experience
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish and develop relationships, coalitions, and partnerships with ease.
  • Possess a strategic mindset in order to navigate, affect, and/or lead complex initiatives with senior-level stakeholders
  • Able to build strategy; identify and implement the steps needed to execute strategy over a business area/function.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management skills.
  • Upholds and models company values; ability to hold others accountable to values.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large teams and complex projects.
  • Experience leading and supporting organizational changes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Typically 12-15 years of relevant experience; 7+ years of experience working on legislative matters in the private sector, a Congressional office, or an Executive Agency
  • Possess a track record of delivering results by developing and implementing advocacy programs in the legislative and executive branches
  • Demonstrated first-hand familiarity with congressional and executive branch politics, processes, customs, and ethics.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense (Civilian), NASA/Civil or commercial space and/or US Military, with an understanding of defense, aerospace, intelligence, and adjacent markets

Compensation

Pay Range: $190,906.00 - $262,515.25

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required as this position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations, and illegal drug use.
