SpaceX

An aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company known for its Falcon rockets and Dragon spacecraft.

Technical Satellite Policy Analyst

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

Technical Satellite Policy Analyst

SpaceX is leveraging its experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world's most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world's largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to 6M+ users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We've only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink's potential global impact. As we continue to upgrade and expand the constellation, we're looking for best-in-class analysts to join the team.

Telecommunication is a heavily regulated business and this position will advise SpaceX on policy advocacy to ensure these regulations enable and protect the provision of this ground-breaking service. This position, part of Starlink's engineering organization, will require you to apply technical expertise and focus to advance Starlink's licensing and spectrum position in front of U.S. and global regulators and government bodies.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Starlink has freedom to operate by procuring needed licenses and approvals at record speeds, owning the process and outcome from beginning to end
  • Work closely with Starlink engineering teams to understand future needs and position the company accordingly
  • Shape ground infrastructure, broadband and spectrum policies that advance SpaceX's business objectives and Starlink's success in the U.S. and global markets
  • Advise the Starlink team on laws, regulations, and policies that impact the business and develop associated plans for achieving business goals
  • Represent and promote the company positions before agencies, regulators, legislatures, and regional organizations
  • Draft pleadings, letters, and other advocacy pieces to promote SpaceX's policy positions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of experience in regulatory policy or business analytics
  • 3+ years of experience in telecommunications or other heavily regulated industries

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering, data science, computer science, physics, or equivalent STEM degree
  • Understanding of satellite and spectrum use policies
  • Knowledge of radiofrequency spectrum technology
  • Experience working with the Federal Communications Commission and other federal agencies
  • Demonstrated success delivering results on large, complex, and fast-moving projects

Additional Requirements:

  • This position is based in Washington, DC and requires being onsite – remote work not considered
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time
  • Must be willing to work extended hours or/and weekends as needed
  • This role may be subjected to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing

ITAR Requirements:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
