Job Description

Teledyne Princeton Instruments, a leading organization serving scientific imaging and spectroscopy markets, is seeking for an Electronic Technician to test, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate electronics equipment ranging from full CCD camera systems to printed circuit boards in its Trenton, NJ office.

An associate degree in Electronics Technology (or equivalent) and previous experience in testing electronic equipment in a manufacturing environment, is required. Candidate must be capable of reading schematics and using basic equipment (oscilloscopes, DVMs, etc.) to test and trouble-shoot electronic assemblies. Excellent computer skills are a must. Candidate must also be well organized and capable of working under minimal supervision and must possess good verbal and written communication skills. Experience with optical detectors and SMT PCBs is a plus.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build and test systems and subassemblies working from assembly drawings, schematics, wire prints, procedures, and verbal instructions.
  • Build and repair systems using power tools, hand tools and various soldering equipment.
  • Position, align, and adjust parts for proper fit and assembly.
  • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in circuitry and other system structures.
  • Read and comprehend complex schematics and diagrams.
  • Follow test procedures to perform everyday tasks.
  • Update reports and maintain inventory.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other professionals on technical tasks.
  • Utilize the ERP system for materials availability and work orders instructions.
  • Perform visual inspections and measurements of parts and subassemblies to ensure all specifications are met.

Required Skills

  • An associate degree in Electronics Technology.
  • Computer skills are required.
  • Previous experience as electronic technician or similar role.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic testing and SMT PCBs.
  • Experienced in through-hole soldering, surface-mount soldering and wiring in accordance with J-STD-001.
  • Familiarity working with various hand tools such as soldering iron, screwdriver, wrenches, cutters, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly drawings.
  • Familiarity working with digital and analog oscilloscopes, DVM, caliper, micrometer.
  • Experience with CCD and other optical detectors is a plus.
  • Experience with High Vacuum systems is a plus.
  • Clean room experience is a plus.
  • ERP administration experience is a plus.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English required.
