Job Summary:

The Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer will act as a "liaison" between R&D and manufacturing, working closely with engineers to review and release new mechanical designs, and to modify existing ones. Part of the review process is analyzing the design for manufacturability. They will work with Quality to address manufacturing issues and coordinate with vendors, making changes and improvements as necessary and documenting through the QMS process. This Engineer will be responsible for maintaining a database of files for released projects. The role will also work closely with the Quality department for QMS and process documentation, while also looking for root cause analysis and process improvements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize SolidWorks and ePDM software to review new designs, implement changes, and to create designs (i.e. test fixtures, tool holders, etc.).
  • Review designs for manufacturability. Be a leader and voice on the design teams to inform new designs and improve current designs to increase manufacturability of products to reduce defects and assembly time.
  • Maintain communication with suppliers, including transferring new design files, requesting quotations, and answering technical questions.
  • Collaborate with R&D, procurement, and manufacturing to transition products between development, LRIP, and FRP stages.
  • Actively seek improvement to current processes, leveraging use of manufacturing data to find opportunities.
  • Become expert on current product manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Work closely with production and service technicians to keep open communication about issues, changes, and suggestions for improvements.
  • Perform root cause analysis/problem solving: Apply sound engineering principles to manufacturing issues in a cross functional environment. This will include working with other disciplines such as electrical, software, quality, and service departments.
  • Write and/or edit manufacturing procedures.
  • Submit engineering change requests when necessary to address mechanical issues.
  • Address ECNs in a timely manner by analyzing and implementing necessary changes.
  • Utilize SAP MRP system to enter new BOMs, search inventory, and research part information.
  • Collaborate with quality department to address vendor process issues.
  • Local travel to support testing and travel to vendor facilities for evaluation and discussions.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred, in an engineering field.
  • 2 - 4+ years of experience in an engineering role.
  • Proficiency in MS office and SolidWorks (or other 3D modeling software) required, experience with ePDM a plus.
  • Experience in assembling mechanical/electrical devices, with emphasis on the integration.
  • Strong experience with quality management system including engineering changes, process changes, product deviations, and design revision release process.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in an ISO 9001:2015 manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with Export Control regulations (ITAR, EAR) preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills for interfacing with colleagues and vendors.
