Job Description

Pay Rate Range: $35 - $85 per hour Teledyne FLIR is looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Technician / Machinist to join our engineering team to work in the Surveillance Systems Division in Orlando FL. This role combines hands-on machining expertise with precision mechanical assembly, supporting the development and fabrication of complex mechanical and opto-mechanical systems.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate and program CNC machines, including CNC mills and lathes, using CAM software integrated with SolidWorks.
  • Perform precision machining of components to tight tolerances using both manual and CNC equipment.
  • Assemble precision mechanical systems, including alignment and integration of opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to optimize manufacturability and assembly processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety and quality standards.

Job Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with CAM programming, preferably using SolidWorks CAM or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in operating CNC lathes and other machine tools.
  • Strong background in precision mechanical assembly, including use of hand tools, torque drivers, and alignment fixtures.
  • Familiarity with opto-mechanical systems and cleanroom assembly practices is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in a prototype or R&D environment.
  • Knowledge of optical alignment techniques and handling of sensitive optical components.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality systems.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Machining, Mechanical Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role.
