Legal Internship

We're seeking a motivated and detail-oriented law student for a Legal Internship, focusing on contracts, compliance, and government contracting. In this role, you'll gain hands-on experience analyzing and negotiating commercial and government contracts while supporting Turion Space's mission as a leading defense and space technology company. You will contribute to developing standardized templates and workflows to improve contract management efficiency and compliance with federal acquisition regulations. This internship offers direct exposure to Department of Defense (DoD) initiatives, export control considerations, and the legal framework governing U.S. defense contracting and satellite operations. This position is on-site at our Irvine, CA headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contract Analysis & Review: Review and summarize key clauses in existing agreements (both commercial and government); identify potential risks and recommend improvements or alternative terms.
  • Government Contracts Support: Assist with compliance and reporting obligations under the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS). Help analyze subcontractor flow-down requirements, data rights clauses, and security provisions.
  • Deal Desk Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Program Management, Business Development, Engineering, etc.) to streamline contract workflows and to ensure deals align with company policies and goals.
  • Template Development: Help create or refine standardized contract templates and clause libraries, contributing to the development of Turion Space's deal desk processes.
  • Legal Research: Conduct research on federal procurement law, intellectual property rights in government contracting, export controls (ITAR/EAR), and other relevant regulations impacting aerospace and defense operations.
  • Contract Management: Support the organization and maintenance of contract databases. Assist with tracking key obligations using internal trackers and contract databases.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve contracting and compliance procedures to reduce risk, increase efficiency, and maintain readiness for audits or reviews.

Qualifications

  • Current law student at an accredited institution.
  • Strong interest in contracts—both commercial and government—and in the aerospace, defense, or high-tech sectors.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to clearly articulate legal and business concepts.
  • High level of attention to detail and capability to work with precision under deadlines.
  • Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to discretion and professionalism in responsibly managing sensitive and confidential information.
  • Willingness to work on-site at our Irvine office for the duration of the internship.

Legal Intern: $25.00/hr USD

ITAR Requirements:

This position may include access to technology and/or software source code that is subject to U.S. export controls. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
