HR Operations Specialist

Umbra is an American space technology company delivering advanced systems, from sensors to spacecraft, that empower customers worldwide with unmatched access to critical information from space. Our mission is simple and ambitious: redefine space—for people, systems, and missions in every domain. Umbra's ecosystem operates through three business units: Remote Sensing (the data), Space Systems (the components), and Mission Solutions (the platforms). Together, our teams develop capabilities that deliver persistent access, resilient performance, and mission-ready solutions, advancing U.S. space leadership while keeping the world safe and informed. We're looking for an HR Operations Specialist to join our team and help keep our people processes running smoothly. In this role, you'll support a wide range of day-to-day HR activities- from recruiting and onboarding to employee engagement and lifecycle support. You'll play an important part in creating a positive experience for candidates, new hires, and employees across the organization.

This position is based on-site in our Arlington, VA office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate interviews between candidates and hiring teams, and help drive timely feedback from hiring managers and panelists.
  • Manage job postings and candidate activity within our applicant tracking system (ATS).
  • Partner across teams to ensure candidates and new hires have an excellent experience throughout their journey with Umbra. You'll build strong relationships with hiring managers to help set every new team member up for success.
  • Oversee core onboarding tasks, including background checks, employment authorization, and completion of required forms and trainings.
  • Maintain accurate HR data and personnel records within our HR systems.
  • Support company culture by helping coordinate team-building and engagement programs and activities.
  • Assist with HR communications, ensuring clarity and consistency.
  • Contribute to ongoing HR projects and help improve our processes as we grow.
  • Support the HR team with other duties as assigned.
