Senior Software Engineer - Localization Data Pipelines

Foster City, CA

Software – Calibration, Localization & Mapping / Full-time / Hybrid

The Calibration, Localization, and Mapping (CLAMS) team is responsible for building the algorithms and tools necessary for keeping Zoox vehicles well calibrated, always knowing where they're located within the world, and aware of their environment. Without precise calibration, localization, and mapping our vehicles would be at a disadvantage when it comes to perceiving and reasoning about the surrounding world, and is therefore foundational in enabling results from many other teams across Zoox. This work is critical for scaling autonomous driving in a safe and reliable way. We are looking for engineers who are ambitious and excited about helping Zoox achieve our goals to deliver autonomous mobility.

Together with the Localization team, you will develop software that measures the performance and stability of our pose systems. It will run at scale in the cloud on large datasets, leveraging validation tooling and resources from across the Autonomy team. You will help define key metrics, and enable more efficient metric collection/analysis that will prevent regressions, drive performance improvements, and allow our Localization systems to scale.

In this role, you will:

  • Improve our Localization validation tooling by designing and delivering new validation features and enhancing our existing framework.
  • Understand and analyze Localization data to deliver meaningful insights and help drive future feature development and systems analysis focus areas.
  • Leverage the advantages of cloud/offline processing (more compute, non-real time, etc) to curate datasets useful for testing and training components of the Localization system.
  • Help Localization scale as we continue to build more vehicles, operate in larger areas, and drive more autonomous miles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Computer Science or related field
  • At least 4 years of industry experience
  • Fluency in C++ or Python
  • Experience with robotics systems
  • Experience with AWS/S3 or similar cloud compute systems

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience developing large scale data analysis systems
  • Experience with localization software and algorithms
  • Experience deploying and managing containerized applications using Kubernetes, Docker, and ArgoCD

$242,000 - $290,000 a year

Compensation includes salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package.
