System Engineering Intern
Interns in this pipeline may be considered for opportunities across a range of teams within the following teams:
Verification & Validation: Support the verification and validation of critical hardware modules through a multi-stage testing process from bench-level testing to full vehicle and product integration, including triaging and root-cause analysis of test results.
Powertrain Engineering: Collaborate closely with senior engineers and suppliers to develop and validate battery control algorithms, create high-fidelity cell models, and conduct laboratory testing to optimize battery performance, safety, and longevity.
System Integration: Perform thermal modeling to estimate key temperatures to improve safety and reduce hardware costs by enabling more accurate cabin safety monitoring and a lower sensor count.
Program Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S., or other advanced degree in a relevant engineering field.
- Plan to return to school after completing the internship.
- Maintain good academic standing.
- Available to commit to either a 12-week summer internship (May or June 2026 start)
- At least one prior industry internship, co-op, or relevant project experience.
- Willing and able to relocate to the Bay Area, California, for the duration of the internship.
- Interns may not use proprietary Zoox information in university theses, publications, or share it outside of Zoox.
Role Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering
- Experience writing test cases and test reports for feature or vehicle requirements.
- Foundational understanding of MATLAB/Simulink for control system design and simulation
- Familiarity with CAN networks and vehicle system architecture
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools
Bonus Qualifications:
- Previous co-op or internship in Robotics, battery systems, power electronics, or Automotive companies.
- Basic knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
- Understanding of battery electrochemistry, cell dynamics, and thermal behavior
Compensation: The monthly salary range for this position is $6,500 to $9,500. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level of education. Additional benefits may include medical insurance, and a housing stipend (relocation assistance will be offered based on eligibility).
